The Maid – (4 out of 5 stars) This mystery remains popular for its quirky, heartwarming protagonist - a socially-challenged, lovable maid who becomes entangled in the investigation of the mysterious death of a wealthy guest. I call it “a thriller with a conscience” that explores the opioid epidemic through the lens of one Philadelphia family - one sister who’s a cop, the other a missing addict. Long Bright River – (5 out of 5 stars) A book I still think about many years later. It’s the quirky, feminist story of a 1960s female scientist and single mother who unexpectedly becomes the unlikely star of a beloved TV cooking show.
